1st Battalion The Border Regiment - 17th September - 26th September 1944
OverzichtAlan Green joined 1st Battalion The Border Regiment in October 1942 as a Platoon Commander with "C" Company, and saw service with the Battalion in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy. He commanded 20 Platoon at the Battle of Arnhem in 1944 and was wounded five times during the battle, eventually being taken a prisoner of war. He rejoined the Battalion in 1945 and served with the Battalion in Norway and Germany. In early 1946 he left the Battalion to become Staff Captain "Q" with a Static Element HQ prior to being demobilised. He taught for fifteen years and served with The Royal Leicestershire Regiment TA and 147 Lorried Infantry Brigade TA. He eventually trained for the Ministry, becoming a priest in 1964 and transferred to the Chaplain's Department RARO in the same year. He was appointed Honorary Canon of Leicester Cathedral in 1978.
